RÉSUMÉ

THE THROUGH LINE

My work has put me at an interesting intersection of understanding people, finding the idea worth building around, and figuring out how to give it form.

I think I learned that first through photography. I was interested in beautiful photographs, certainly, but even more interested in what made the people in them unmistakably themselves. I learned that I couldn’t manufacture that or ask someone to perform it for the camera. I had to pay attention, build trust, ask better questions and create enough room for something genuine to emerge. Then I had to recognize it when it did.

I eventually realized I was doing much the same thing in my work with businesses. Founders often deeply understand what makes their work matter without necessarily having the language for it yet. People respond to things for reasons they may not immediately be able to articulate. I love getting underneath those first answers, finding the thread between the two, and giving it a form other people can understand, feel and recognize themselves in.

Where that gets especially interesting to me is what happens next. An idea might become positioning or story, a visual identity or website, an experience someone can physically walk into, or something none of us would have thought to make before we understood the problem. I’m comfortable moving between the conceptual and practical, digital and physical, and thinking not only about what something could be, but what it will take to make it real.

Building businesses myself has made that last part matter. I’ve had to live with what happens after the creative work leaves the room—whether the idea works, whether people understand it, whether it creates the experience we intended, and whether it actually serves the business and the people on the other side of it.

That combination is probably the through line in a career that otherwise doesn’t fit especially neatly on paper. I care about people. I’m curious about what’s underneath the obvious answer. I love beautiful things and big ideas, but I also love making them work.

That’s the kind of work I hope to keep doing.

If you’re here for the chronology, it’s below. If you’d rather take it with you, the résumé is yours.
